ICELAND – Marel, a multi-national food processing company and equipment supplier, has unveiled the FleXicut Jet, a new solution aimed at increasing efficiency, precision, and yield in whitefish trimming and pinboning.
This latest innovation is designed to help seafood processors optimize production by reducing handling, minimizing waste, and improving fillet quality.
The FleXicut Jet incorporates water-jet technology, advanced software, and bone detection capabilities.
It enhances production by automating trimming and pinbone removal, offering processors a way to improve yield and reduce waste, especially in high-value whitefish products like loins, back fillets, and V-cuts.
The system’s cutting-edge X-ray technology is a key feature, enabling the detection of bones as small as 0.2mm.
By scanning fillets from two angles and generating 3D images, the FleXicut Jet optimizes the trimming process, removing even the smallest bones with greater accuracy than traditional methods. This level of precision contributes to higher-quality fillets with less waste.
The FleXicut Jet can process up to 50 fillets per minute, setting a high benchmark for throughput in the seafood industry.
It is capable of handling a variety of species, including catfish, redfish, and tuna, while maintaining consistent quality across different fillet sizes. The system’s efficiency allows processors to increase productivity without compromising on precision or yield.
According to the company statement, the FleXicut Jet is adaptable to a wide range of processing environments.
Whether used by small or medium-sized operations, seasonal producers, or large-scale ships and trawlers, the system can be tailored to meet specific needs.
It offers configurations with two or three water-jet robots, depending on the scale of production.
The solution is suitable for producers dealing with skin-on fillets, gaping issues, or those seeking to expand their product offerings.
Marel continues to position itself as a major player in the global food processing industry, with a focus on sustainable solutions for poultry, meat, fish, and prepared food sectors.
With operations in over 30 countries and a workforce of more than 8,000, Marel reported revenues of US$1.93 billion in 2023.
