GERMANY – American confectionery giant Mars Incorporated has completed the acquisition of a significant majority stake in the German based nutrition firm, foodspring.

The deal, which was announced in June this year, will see foodspring join and become a standalone business within Mars Edge, a new segment of Mars that is dedicated to human health and wellness through targeted nutrition.

The company will continue to be led by its founders Philipp Schrempp and Tobias Schüle and will operate out of its headquarters in Berlin, Germany.

foodspring is regarded as one of Europe’s leading and fastest growing premium brands in the functional food category.

The company offers products for consumers with needs around sports performance, healthy living and shape, as well as a leading nutrition and fitness platform.

foosdpring’s portfolio includes protein shakes, supplements, snacks & bars, muesli & porridge, smart cooking solutions and a range of beverages.

The premium brand offers on-trend, evidence-based, and data-driven products for consumers with needs around sports performance, healthy living and shape.

These include a nutrition and fitness platform to personalise consumer experiences with features like a dedicated “Coach” section, “The Magazine” its stand-alone content site, the Body Check recommendation engine, and access to nutritionists through its customer service team.

In doing so Mars Edge is partnering with start-up companies, academia and philanthropic organisations to bring ideas to life. Mars Edge’s purpose is to contribute to better lives through nutrition.
