Mars Ireland recalls its confectionery over salmonella fears

IRELAND – Mars Ireland has recalled a batch of Galaxy Milk Bars and Maltesers Fun Size Bags due to the possible presence of salmonella in the products.

According to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, this is not the first recall over its range of products.

Last June Mars Ireland also recalled two pallets of the products, which were kept on hold with an Irish distributor awaiting destruction but were placed on the market accidentally.

Mars Ireland has recalled the above specific batch of the 42g Galaxy Smooth Milk bar and Maltesers Fun Size bags.
The FSA of Ireland also said that consumption of product from the implicated batches could cause salmonellosis, which symptoms can include diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever.

However, there have been no reports of illness.

FSA has requested Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) as part of routine inspections, to check businesses to determine if the implicated batches are on sale.

If found, EHOs would oversee a recall and ensure a point-of-sale notice is displayed in stores.

Food businesses are requested to remove the affected batch of the two products from sale and clearly display a point-of-sale notice informing customers not to eat them.

Consumers who may have already consumed the implicated batches and are feeling unwell should seek medical advice.
