Mettler-Toledo debuts entry-level metal detection system to enhance food inspection systems among SMEs

US –  Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection has launched M30 R-series GC, a new a series of metal detection systems aimed at enhancing food inspection operations of small and medium-size manufacturers and/or co-packers.

The new metal detection systems feature a Sense software-powered digital platform and advanced algorithms which makes it possible to deliver high sensitivity to all metal contaminant types with minimal false rejects.

Dynamic stability control innovations which are incorporated into the system stabilize the core sensor of the metal detector to help protect against environmental noise and vibration interference for increased reliability.

The M30 R-Series consists of four metal detector models matched to different production and compliance needs, and budget considerations.

The first in the series is the M31R StandardLine designed for versatile, reliable inspection in all food segments.

The M33R PlusLine comes in second and features very high frequency tuned technology and eDrive to deliver an up to 20% improvement in spherical sensitivity performance.

Mettler-Toledo recommends The M33R PlusLine for dry applications such as cereal bars, dry pasta, confectionery and snacks.

The M33RB PlusLine includes very high frequency tuned technology and eDrive, combined with optimized case/coil geometry to deliver up to 30% improved spherical sensitivity performance in bulk applications such as crates of meat and 25kg sacks of flour.

The M34R PlusLine comes in forth and is tailored for wet, challenging, and conductive applications such as dairy, meat, poultry, and seafood products with high salt content and those packed in metallized film.

The metal detectors can be integrated with a range of conveyor systems including Mettler-Toledo’s recently enhanced GC Series systems.

Mettler-Toledo notes that these entry-level metal detection systems are designed on a modular platform concept with streamlined features availed as standard to all of them.

The metal detector and conveyor can be upgraded as compliance or production requirements change, helping manufacturers achieve a lower overall cost of ownership and extend the useful life of their equipment, supporting sustainability aims.

The M30 R-Series is the first product family from Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection built around the Sense software technology.

“Sense really is a game-changer in the metal detection field,” said Mike Bradley, metal detection systems product inspection specialist at Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection.

“Just like a human brain, it commands the neural network within these digital inspection systems and integrated GC Series conveyors. It takes control of the entire metal detection system to unprecedented levels, making judgements and decisions, learning all the time, and constantly harmonizing and optimizing every aspect of the operation.”

Even with its sophisticated technology, Mettler-Toledo promises ease of use. The company says the systems color touchscreen makes operation simple, with key tasks accessible using a quick-access menu.

Additionally, a localization feature with up to 33 languages is available to reduce error risk and improve productivity.

The new metal detection system also offers three levels of ingress protection from IP65 to IP69K to support long term, reliable performance in a wide range of manufcaturing environments.
