USA- Confectionary giant Mondelēz International has appointed Filippo Catalano as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective in the fourth quarter of the year.

Catalano has expansive experience, spanning more than two decades, in forming and implementing digital technologies as part of the overall business strategy of various businesses, especially in the food and beverage sector.

The new CIO’s experience includes a 15-year stint at the consulting firm Proctor & Gamble, where he was crucial in providing digitization consultancy services for various businesses across different industries. During the same period, Catalano also served as Farmer Connect’s non-executive director, where he got his entry into the food and beverage sector.

Catalano was also the Senior Vice President and Global CIO at Nestle, where he developed and implemented various digital transformation efforts, including the enhanced utilization of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and cloud computing in routine operations.

He also helped develop expansive market analysis tools using advanced data analytics technologies.

The new CIO joins Mondelez from Reckitt, where he previously served as the company’s CIO and digital officer. In his short tenure at the company, he helped to develop and implement various digital transformation strategies.

His main role at Reckitt involved re-platforming the company’s technology stack and expanding technical capabilities to enhance multi-channel operations. This was achieved by implementing AI, ML, and advanced data analytics operations.

Catalano welcomed the move, reiterating his commitment to helping the confectionary giant achieve a competitive advantage through consumer-centric technological solutions.

The new CIO said, “I am very excited to join Mondelēz International and help the company drive industry-leading technology solutions that grow competitive advantage while helping better connect customers and consumers with the snacking brands they love.”

His main role as CIO will be to develop and oversee the implementation of technologies throughout the confectionary giant’s production line and point of contact with customers. He is expected to further develop the existing applications of AI, ML, and advanced analytical techniques.

The appointment is considered a continuation of the company’s overall technology-driven strategy for enhancing customer experience and product quality. It comes barely two months after the company launched a US$5 million innovations hub in Singapore.
