Morocco’s OCP partners with Italian solution provider Bedeschi to automate storage facilities

MOROCCO – Morocco’s fertilizer giant OCP Group has named Italian engineering group, Bedeschi as its material handling partner for its new project.

Under the partnership, OCP will leverage Beeschi’s expertise for the automation of three of its new storage units i.e., two for fertilizer and one for sulfur with a total storage capacity of 300,000 tons of material.

In particular, the company will supply, among other things, 3 trippers, 3 reclaimers, and 6 conveyor belts with a capacity of up to 2000 t/h.

The new equipment will be installed in the chemical complex of Phosboucraa, 30 km from the city of Laayoune, in the Moroccan Sahara.

OCP has been expanding its partnerships worldwide to grow its offering and boost its presence across the globe.

Recently, the fertilizer giant acquired a 50% stake in GlobalFeed from major Spanish fertilizer producer Fertinagro Biotech, to diversify its phosphate production operations and become a leading player in animal nutrition.

GlobalFeed operates in the animal nutrition segment, manufactures and distributes a wide range of products, including phosphate-based commodities and high-value solutions dedicated to several species.

The company owns flexible production units with a capacity of 200,000 tons of phosphate-based products and 30,000 tons of iron sulfate located in Huelva, Spain, and benefits from a large global sales footprint.

“This acquisition confirms OCP’s objective to diversify its phosphate solutions and become a leading player in the animal nutrition sector, addressing growing demand and expanding its offerings to specialty sustainable and customized products,” said Marouane Ameziane, Managing Director for Specialty Products and Solutions at OCP Group.

The animal feed market has been growing strong in the last couple of years thanks to livestock production growing around the world, aimed to feed the population’s increasing needs for adequate meat and protein products, especially in the emerging countries of the global South.

In this context, this transaction will contribute to OCP’s strategy to grow in the animal nutrition segment by expanding its presence geographically and offering a diversified, customized, and innovative product portfolio.

OCP plays an important role in feeding a growing global population, by providing essential elements for the agricultural industry, with a century of experience and revenues reaching US$ 9.4 billion in 2021.

The company is a leader in plant nutrition and the world’s leading producer of phosphate-based products.

It provides a wide range of customized products to enhance soil, increase agricultural yields, feed animals and help nourish the planet in a sustainable and affordable way.
