MSC introduces remote tracking system for refrigerated containers

GLOBAL – Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), a leading global shipping company, has launched a remote monitoring system that enables customers to track refrigerated containers in real time, offering greater control over temperature-sensitive cargo.

The global shipping giant, which transports over one million reefer containers annually, has unveiled iReefer, a system that allows shippers to check the temperature, humidity, and location of their cargo at any time, from anywhere in the world.

“MSC is excited to introduce iReefer, our remote tracking and monitoring solution for reefer containers. With iReefer, customers can track their temperature-controlled shipments in real time, anytime, and from anywhere in the world,” MSC stated.

The company emphasized that iReefer provides immediate access to key shipment details, including position, temperature, and humidity levels.

This feature is available 24/7 through the myMSC eBusiness platform or via an API (Application Programming Interface), ensuring seamless access for businesses.

MSC has rolled out three iReefer packages, each with different features to accommodate various customer needs. The basic package, iReefer Essential, is free and provides historical and current shipment data, a container journey log, and graphical representations of shipment conditions.

Customers can choose to upgrade to iReefer Pro or iReefer Ultimate, which offer additional insights, including unlimited downloads and GPS tracking.

Ahead of the system’s official launch, MSC has already connected more than 210,000 reefer containers and fitted over 500 vessels with iReefer technology. The company intends to extend this coverage to its entire fleet in the near future.

Support for melon exports from Senegal and Mauritania

In addition to launching iReefer, MSC has announced adjustments to its shipping services to support the melon season in Senegal and Mauritania. The company has modified its standalone Spain-to-Mauritania-and-Senegal service to improve shipping efficiency for melon exporters.

These adjustments include an exclusive direct call to Sète, France, to serve the French and Italian markets, along with a direct connection to Valencia for shipments headed to Spain.

Additionally, MSC has scheduled weekly departures from Dakar and Nouakchott, ensuring steady movement of fresh produce to the West Mediterranean.

The service is set to begin in mid-February, and MSC has assured exporters that its modern fleet will be deployed to handle reefer shipments, maintaining cargo quality throughout the transportation process.

For those interested in learning more about the updates, MSC representatives will be available at Fruit Logistica Berlin from February 5-7, 2025, at Hall 26, stand H31. Customers can also contact their local MSC offices for further details on these service enhancements.
