US – Milk Specialties Global (MSG), a protein and food ingredients manufacturer, has set up a new production facility in Jerome, Idaho, US, aiming to produce acid casein and rennet casein products for food and industrial applications.
According to the processor the new facility will process 2.5 million pounds of milk each day and offer North American consumers an alternative supply of domestically produced casein products.
“We have the knowledge and the network to create more value out of the high-quality milk produced in Idaho, so it just makes sense for us,” David Lenzmeier, CEO of Milk Specialties Global, said.
“ We’re looking forward to getting to work with Magic Valley Quality Milk a raw-milk cooperative and our customers to supply skim milk for casein production.”
MVQM CEO, Alan Stutzman, assured that MSG is an ideal partner to convert milk into value-added ingredients offering exciting opportunities to farmers to offer quality raw milk for the production processes.
The Jerome-based facility is built adjacent to MVQM’s milk processing facility, and the two are connected by a pipeline to skim milk between facilities.
According to MSG, the location will significantly reduce carbon emissions over time by eliminating the need for truck transportation.
Oatly launches pop-up store in Netherlands
In the meantime, Oatly has launched a pop-up store in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to showcase its oat-based soft-serve ice cream.
According to the Swedish-based company, the store is aimed to supply the dairy-free treat in a 100% eco-friendly cup produced from the paper board without a traditional plastic coating layer.
“Oatly tries to recycle whenever possible. All the packaging used at the store is made from paper which is more environmentally friendly and fits with Oatly as a brand,” said one of the employees in an interview.
“The spoons for the ice cream are also paper-based with the paper packaging made from paper board with a water-based coating. The cups are made from paper, making them recyclable with paper.”
The pop-up sells vanilla, coffee and matcha flavours. The oat-based soft serve can be paired with various toppings, which Oatly has dubbed over-the-top toppings.
Recently Oatly has thrilled the global dairy industry through unique innovations pushing into sustainability and the development of healthy and quality products.
Alongside the Amsterdam pop-up, Oatly has taken to the streets this summer with vegan soft-serve food trucks across Sweden, Denmark and the UK. Additionally, it will have 15 pop-up locations in German subway stations until September 10.
Earlier this year, the alternative dairy company expanded its business with Amazon, allowing a range of the alternative milk brand’s products to become available in several European countries.
