Biotiful Gut Health to continue operations under Müller’s ownership, targeting accelerated growth in the UK’s functional dairy segment.
UK – Müller, the global dairy group, has announced the acquisition of Biotiful Gut Health, a leading UK brand known for its range of kefir-based functional food and beverage products.
The financial terms of the deal were not officially disclosed, though industry sources suggest the transaction exceeded £100 million (US$113.6M).
Founded in 2012, Biotiful Gut Health has established itself as the number one kefir brand in the UK. Its portfolio includes products such as kefir drinks, yogurts, overnight oats, meal boosters, and children’s kefir.
The brand has experienced significant momentum, spurred by increasing consumer interest in functional health and gut-friendly food solutions—a space Müller has not previously entered.
The brand’s financial performance reflects its rapid growth, with profit after tax for the financial year 2024 jumping by 646.2% to £1.77 million (US$2M), up from £237,519 in 2023.
Following the acquisition, Biotiful will continue to operate under its current brand identity. Natasha Bowes, the founder, will remain involved in an advisory capacity.
Meanwhile, Müller’s Yogurt and Desserts CEO, Richard Williams, will join Biotiful’s leadership team to support strategic expansion.
Williams commented, “Biotiful Gut Health is a business we have long admired. It is one of the fastest-growing brands in the sector, has great tasting products, and a real focus on consumer and innovation.
“This business fits well within our existing portfolio. We are already growing and optimising our range of health and nutrition products, and Biotiful will help us expand into new areas to meet evolving consumer needs.”
Bowes expressed optimism about the partnership, saying, “I am humbly proud of Biotiful’s major positive impact on the category so far, in bringing natural health to the forefront of yogurt innovation. I’m especially excited about how this can now be amplified and accelerated through Müller’s resources and ambition.”
Müller’s acquisition aligns with a broader trend of major food and beverage players investing in the gut health segment.
In March, PepsiCo acquired the prebiotic soda brand Poppi, signaling rising interest in functional beverages.
The UK kefir category has seen strong growth, with Kantar reporting double-digit increases in both volume and value.
