KENYA – Naivas, the largest supermarket chain in Kenya, is accelerating its expansion the coastal region of the country with new store to be opened soon with others in the pipeline.
The 105th store and the 12th in the region is set to be opened in in the Nyali area, Mombasa. This new outlet, located along Links Road, will cover 5,000 square feet.
“This expansion is more than just a strategic move; it’s about meeting our customers right where they are,” said Andreas Von Paleske, Chief of Strategy at Naivas.
“Our goal is to provide convenient access to essential goods, making shopping quick and easy for the local community. This new store is designed to offer a seamless shopping experience while reflecting our commitment to Kenyan values and customer needs.”
Naivas also plans to open additional branches in Mtwapa, Tilisi, and Mavoko in the near future. According to the retailer, the Nyali outlet will feature a foodmarket store format, with a thoughtfully curated range of products, including groceries, fresh produce, dairy, meats, and general merchandise.
The new store will offer exclusive sales and promotions to the residents of Nyali and surrounding areas, aligning with the brand’s promise of delivering savings and value.
The store comes four months after opening its 104th branch at T Square Mall in Buruburu, when the firm signaled a slowdown its branch expansions.
It was the retailer’s second store in less than a week after opening another outlet in Lang’ata on April 23, 2024.
In February, Naivas Senior commercial manager Denis Makori said the retailer has planned five outlets by the end of this year.
“Our approach is scientific we are doing more feasibility studies before we launch into any new location. Our expansion is based on those feasibility study and viability of those sites,” he said.
The retail chain has crossed 12,000 employees mark after the opening of new branches in the past 12 months, making the company one of the largest private sector employers in the country.
Their closest rival Quickmart currently runs operations spread out across 16 counties and a total workforce of more than 7,000 employees.
