NIGERIA – The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC), the Nigerian subsidiary of Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company has converted one of its bottling operations plant into a hub for material handling and logistics for the region, reports Beverage Industry News.
NBC said that this decision has been motivated by its ambitions of delivering better value to its esteemed consumers and trade partners not only in Enugu State, where the premise is located, but in the entire South-East region.
Mr. Ekuma Eze, the Acting Director, Public Affairs & Communications, said that the development is in line with the holistic strategy to reposition the company’s operation for better efficiency and accelerate the business transformation plan.
“The repurposing of some NBC facilities across Nigeria, Enugu inclusive, is in line with our sustainable business strategy with the overarching goal of improving efficiency and boosting production capacity to meet the ever growing demand of our discerning consumers.
While production activities have stopped at the Enugu facility, the company would continue to carry out logistics and commercial operations from the location,” Eze said.
Mr Eze noted that NBC has rolled out over US$ 567.86million cash investment to facilitate its the company’s business transformation and optimization plan as it seeks to increase production capacity and improve efficiency.
He noted that the investment will also see massive expansion and upgrade of some key plants such as those located in Benin and Abuja transform some other plants including Ilorin to handle commercial and logistics activities.
“As a result of business optimization, some roles became redundant. However, the whole process was conducted with utmost respect and consideration for our employees and engagement with the Unions.
The company provided robust and generous severance packages way above statutory requirements and industry average’’.
Eze also highlighted that the company remains committed in sustainable investments as it gears up towards continually providing quality products and enhanced commercial and logistics capability across Nigeria
