Nespresso expands in India with first boutique store

INDIA – Nespresso has launched its first boutique store in India as part of its strategy to expand its presence in the country’s premium coffee market.

The brand also announced plans to increase coffee sourcing from Indian farmers to support its growing global demand.

The newly opened boutique, located in Delhi, marks a key milestone for Nespresso’s expansion in India. CEO Philipp Navratil emphasized the company’s commitment to catering to the country’s rising coffee culture, particularly among younger consumers.

“The launch of the Nespresso boutique in Delhi is a testament to our commitment to the growing coffee culture in India. I’m very proud of this important milestone, which will help us bring Nespresso’s unforgettable taste to Indian coffee lovers. With this new space, we invite coffee lovers to immerse themselves in an unparalleled sensory journey, where they can explore our diverse range of exceptional blends and innovative machines,” Navratil said.

Nestlé, which has been sourcing green coffee from India for its Nespresso business since 2011, works with 2,000 coffee farmers in the country.

Today, nearly one in five Nespresso coffee pods sold globally contains Indian coffee. With rising demand, Nespresso plans to scale up its sourcing efforts to further integrate Indian coffee into its global supply chain.

“Our business is set to grow significantly, not just in sales but also in the quantity of coffee we source from India. As the demand for Indian coffee continues to rise, we are committed to supporting our farmers and expanding the entire value chain,” Navratil said.

Nespresso’s India expansion aligns with Nestlé’s broader efforts to strengthen its footprint in the premium coffee segment.

In February 2025, the company announced plans to introduce Starbucks-branded retail coffee products in India as part of its Global Coffee Alliance with the US coffee giant.

To drive business-to-business (B2B) growth, Nespresso has partnered with Bengaluru-based Thakral Innovations Pvt Ltd, which will distribute its professional coffee machines to the horeca and office sectors.

Beyond India, Nestlé continues to invest in sustainable packaging solutions. The company recently announced a €15 million (US$15.8M) investment in its Girona coffee factory in Spain to enhance recyclable packaging production.

The facility, which produces Nescafé instant coffee and Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsules, will introduce two energy-efficient packaging lines and start manufacturing Nescafé refill bags for the first time in Spain.
