The company is actively working with regulatory agencies to investigate the hazard source
USA – On March 17th 2025, Nestlé USA, a leading food and beverage company, announced a voluntary recall of a limited quantity of Lean Cuisine® and STOUFFER’S® frozen meals due to the potential presence of wood-like material.
After consumers contacted Nestlé USA about a possible choking incident, the company initiated a voluntary recall, specifically for a limited quantity of batches of Lean Cuisine® Butternut Squash Ravioli, Lean Cuisine® Spinach Artichoke Ravioli, Lean Cuisine® Lemon Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry, and STOUFFER’S® Party Size Chicken Lasagna.
These products were produced between August 2024 – March 2025 and distributed at major retailers in the U.S. between September 2024 – March 2025.
Nestlé USA has developed a list of the affected batches and their corresponding best-before dates on their website and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) site, under recalls, market withdrawals and Safety alerts.
They have assured us that they are actively investigating the source of the wood-like material and are working with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on the recall.
According to CBS News, the recalled products were sold at Walmart stores in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Kroger sold two recalled products — Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash Ravioli and Lean Cuisine Spinach Artichoke Ravioli — at its stores in multiple states.
The recall does not involve any other Lean Cuisine® or STOUFFER’S® products, and anyone needing further support is advised to contact Nestlé USA.
Additional Nestlé recalls
Similarly, Cereal Partners UK and Ireland recently recalled 14 batches of Nestlé Frosted Shreddies in Europe because of possible small hard lumps of sugar formed in the product, presenting a choking hazard.
Other than the 40g and 500g batches mentioned, no other Nestlé Frosted Shreddies, Nestlé Shreddies varieties or other Nestlé Breakfast Cereal products were affected.
Nestlé emphasises its commitment to quality and consumer safety, and works closely with regulatory agencies to address these issues.
Nestlé further advises consumers who have purchased these products not to prepare or consume them but to contact the company with photographs of the batch codes or return them to the retailer from which they bought them for a replacement or a full refund.
