
SOUTH AFRICA – The Association of Meat Importers and Exporters (AMIE) has recently appointed Imameleng Mothebe as the new CEO effective May 2.
Her background includes a wealth of experience in senior management positions within the private and public sectors, most recently serving as the director of industry development: agro-processing at the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition.
With over two decades of expertise in corporate affairs, sector skills planning, and economic development, Mothebe brings a deep understanding of agricultural sector dynamics and trade policy to her new role.
Mothebe will take over from outgoing CEO Paul Matthew.
In her capacity at AMIE, Mothebe aims to foster a sustainable and robust food sector by balancing domestic production capacity and ensuring accessibility of affordable food for all South Africans, particularly those from marginalized communities.
She emphasizes the importance of collaboration with government and industry stakeholders to promote the growth of meat protein exports while addressing food security concerns at the national level.
She will be taking over an organization dedicated to advancing fair trade and facilitating global access in the meat and poultry import and export industry – By fostering dialogue among businesses, trade partners, and governments, AMIE works tirelessly to navigate challenges and promote opportunities for its members.
The association’s chairperson, Seymour Talpert, expresses enthusiasm for Mothebe’s appointment, citing her extensive experience and knowledge as assets that will benefit the association and its members.
Talpert also extends gratitude to outgoing CEO Paul Matthew for his dedicated service to AMIE and its members, wishing him success in his future endeavours.
Mothebe outlines her vision of driving alignment between domestic production and trade policies to support the growth of South Africa’s meat export industry.
“AMIE will continue to work towards this balance while promoting the growth of meat protein exports through close collaboration with government and the broader sector to achieve alignment. I am looking forward to this new challenge,” says Mothebe.
