NIGERIA – One of Nigeria’s leading omni channel retailers, FoodCo Limited, has consolidated its position in the local retail scene with opening of its 15th outlet in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The retailer, which is among the top five supermarket chain owners in the country has outlets spread across Oyo, Lagos and Ogun States.

Speaking on the new store, Ade Sun-Basorun, Chief Executive Officer, FoodCo, stated that the move is in furtherance of the company’s commitment towards meeting the growing demand for modern retail in the country.

“We are excited to announce the opening of FoodCo’s 15th outlet. Given that Ibadan is the birthplace of the brand, FoodCo shares a special relationship with the city and we have continued to enjoy enormous goodwill and support from our teeming base of customers and well-wishers since we opened our first shop almost 40 years ago,” he said.

As a customer-focused brand, FoodCo’s values are built around delivering excellent customer satisfaction and growing the industry for the benefit of all stakeholders.

“This is a major motivation behind our investments in deepening modern retail penetration in the country in order to meet the increasing demand from the bourgeoning middle-class and sophisticated customer segment who crave the convenience, quality assurance and superior customer service that the sector offers,” Sun-Basorun added.

The outlet avails top-quality groceries, household products, and features a Quick Service Restaurant offering delicious local and international cuisine as well as tasty pastries.

Established 40 years ago, FoodCo is a diversified consumer goods company with interests in retail, quick service restaurants, manufacturing and entertainment.

The company operates the largest supermarket chain brand in South-West Nigeria, outside Lagos, and is currently only one of two omni-channel retailers in the country.

Naivas in expansion blitz

In Kenya, Naivas Supermarket is set to open three more stores in the next few weeks as it steps up its expansion drive and battle for market share growth against its closest rivals in the country.

The first outlet will be opened at Kiambu Mall on April 14 at a space that was previously occupied by troubled Botswana retailer Choppies Supermarket which exited the Kenyan market in 2019 after losses.

The second store will be opened on the same day at Safari Centre in Naivasha while the third store will be opened in Meru on a date that is yet to be identified by the retailer.

The upcoming stores will raise the retailer’s branch network across the country to 85 as its races to defend its market leadership against an aggressive QuickMart —which has opened three branches in the last two months.

The new stores will be coming up barely a few weeks after the retailer opened its 82nd store in Syokimau as it continues with its national expansion.
