SOUTH AFRICA – Nutreco, a global leader in animal nutrition and aquafeed solutions, has announced its strategic intention to acquire Chemfit Fine Chemicals Proprietary Limited, trading as AECI Animal Health, based in South Africa.
This move underscores Nutreco’s commitment to boosting its footprint in the African market, a pivotal region in ensuring sustainable nutrition for future generations.
The acquisition, expected to be finalized in Q4 2024 pending regulatory approvals, represents a significant expansion following Nutreco’s 2016 acquisition of Advit.
Founded in 2002, AECI Animal Health operates from its manufacturing hub in Burgersdorp, Eastern Cape, providing nationwide distribution.
The company’s operational strengths, particularly in key agricultural regions, align seamlessly with Trouw Nutrition South Africa, a subsidiary of Nutreco.
By merging with AECI Animal Health, Nutreco aims to enhance its service offerings and product portfolio, ultimately benefiting its customers across the region.
This integration promises enhanced capabilities and expanded market reach, crucial for supporting South African farmers in building a sustainable agricultural future.
This acquisition comes at a period of transition – It coincides with recent announcements from Nutreco regarding changes at the executive level, including the planned departures of CEO Fulco van Lede and Therese Log Bergjord, CEO of Skretting, Nutreco’s aquaculture business.
The company remains steadfast in its mission to ‘feed the future,’ prioritizing sustainable practices and innovation to meet the evolving needs of global agriculture.
