OMAN – A’Saffa Foods SAOG has announced plans to increase its broiler chicken production capacity from 48 million to 60 million birds annually as part of an ambitious expansion strategy.
This growth initiative is designed to address the growing demand for high-quality poultry products in Oman and neighboring markets.
The company’s Board of Directors stated that the expansion aligns with A’Saffa Foods’ five-year strategic growth plan and reflects its commitment to enhancing food security while maintaining its position as a leading poultry producer.
A spokesperson for A’Saffa Foods described the move as a step toward sustainable growth, emphasizing the company’s dedication to providing premium halal poultry products.
“This initiative ensures we meet rising customer demand and contribute to Oman’s economic development under Oman Vision 2040,” the spokesperson said.
The expansion is expected to strengthen A’Saffa’s supply chain, improve operational efficiency, and generate additional employment opportunities within Oman.
Poultry Production and Consumption Trends in Oman
In 2021, Oman consumed 101,000 metric tons of poultry meat, with per capita consumption reaching 20.4 kilograms, a 2.72% increase from the previous year.
By 2026, poultry consumption in the country is forecast to rise to 102,000 metric tons, while domestic production is projected to increase from 6,810 metric tons in 2022 to 7,410 metric tons.
Oman’s poultry consumption is driven largely by the demand for processed poultry among its youth and expatriate population.
To meet the growing need for fresh and chilled poultry, the government continues to invest in boosting local production.
Regional Poultry Consumption
In the broader Middle East, poultry consumption patterns vary widely.
Saudi Arabia, for example, produced 1.13 million metric tons of chicken meat in 2022 and is projected to reach 1.2 million metric tons by 2026.
Per capita consumption across Arab countries also differs significantly, ranging from 0.8 kilograms in Sudan to 57 kilograms in Kuwait as of 2015.
A’Saffa Foods’ expansion comes amid these regional trends, reinforcing the company’s role in ensuring food security and meeting the growing demand for poultry in the region.
