INDIA – Coca-Cola India Ltd., the Indian subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company has launched a Ready-to-Drink iced green tea under the brand name ‘Honest Tea’, in dedicated efforts to venture into the RTD beverage tea market.  

In 2022, Coca-Cola had announced plans to phase out the Honest Tea product line in a portfolio optimization drive that targeted to axe low growth brands.  

The brand is now making a comeback in India, one of Coca-Cola’s major markets, generating revenues of over US$1.5 billion in 2022. 

The new RTD tea is made from organic green tea sourced from Kolkata-based Luxmi Tea Co Private Ltd’s Makaibari Tea Estate and will come in Lemon-Tulsi and Mango variants., according to company officials. 

An MoU was signed between the two companies at the seventh edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS). 

The rationale behind Coca Cola’s tea launch was to provide consumers with a wider range of beverage options.  

Karthik Subramanian, director of marketing- hydration, coffee and tea category, Coca-Cola India and Southwest Asia, commented, “We are thrilled to introduce our new ready-to-drink iced green tea. With Honest Tea, we are offering consumers a unique experience of a great tasting green tea-based beverage.” 

The launch is also timely as data from Statista show that the US$148 million India RTD tea market is expected to grow annually by 11.20 percent (CAGR 2023-2027).
