OMAN – Osool Poultry Company has joined forces with Aviagen, a leading US-based poultry industry expert.
The collaboration, valued at OMR10 million (US$25 million), marks the establishment of a transformative poultry project named ‘Jaddat’ (mother hens).
Under this agreement, Dr. Hadi Mohsen Al Lawati, CEO of Osool Company, and Bulent Tanyildizi, Aviagen’s Business Manager for the Middle East and North Africa, have formalized plans to integrate Aviagen’s extensive technical expertise.
Aviagen will provide comprehensive support to Osool in setting up and operating the project, which focuses on producing fertilized eggs, quality chicks, and other poultry products.
The initiative is crucial for Oman’s poultry industry, addressing logistical challenges and mitigating health risks associated with poultry imports.
Currently, Osool Poultry Company imports one-day-old chicks to sustain its annual production capacity of 150 million eggs.
By locally producing fertilized eggs and enhancing chick quality through advanced technologies, the project aims to enhance self-sufficiency and safeguard against potential disease transmission.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone in Oman’s agricultural landscape,” stated Dr. Al Lawati. “By leveraging Aviagen’s global expertise, we are not only strengthening our local production capabilities but also meeting the increasing demand for poultry products in Oman’s diverse culinary market.”
The Oman Poultry Meat Market, estimated at USD 196.47 million in 2024, is projected to grow to USD 214.40 million by 2029.
The growth will be driven by rising consumer expenditures on food and preferences for convenient, processed poultry products.
This growth underscores the strategic timing of the ‘Jaddat’ project, which aligns with Oman’s economic objectives of enhancing domestic food production and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
In response to changing consumer behaviors favoring convenience and quality, major retailers like Carrefour and Lulu Group are expanding their operations across Oman, focusing on advanced delivery services to cater to increasing consumer demand for poultry products.
