INDIA – Under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s (FSSAI) Eat Right India movement, over 500 hospitals across the country have been certified as ‘Eat Right Campus’.
The ‘Eat Right Campus’ certification represents a paradigm shift within the healthcare industry, extending the focus beyond medical care to encompass the critical role of healthy eating.
By ensuring the availability of safe and nutritious food, these hospitals are taking a holistic approach to health and wellness, recognizing that recovery and well-being are heavily influenced by dietary choices.
Among the certified institutions, 100 are government hospitals, setting a precedent for accessibility to safe and nutritious food for everyone, irrespective of socio-economic status.
Notable hospitals like SNM Hospital Leh, Bangalore Baptist Hospital, Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, and Tata Memorial Hospital are at the forefront of this initiative. Additionally, recognized hospitals span across the country, from Delhi’s Fortis Hospital and BLK Max Hospital to the District Women’s Hospital in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and over 50 Sadar/District hospitals.
The certification under the Eat Right India movement, initiated in 2019, involves a stringent evaluation process.
Hospitals must demonstrate compliance with key parameters including food safety measures, provision of healthy food options, and efforts to promote informed food choices among individuals. This comprehensive approach ensures that certified campuses maintain the highest standards of food safety and nutrition.
With over 2,900 workplaces now recognized as Eat Right Campuses, the initiative is significantly impacting the eating habits and health of thousands of individuals across India.
The certification not only boosts the public perception and reputation of these institutions but also serves as a beacon for other organizations to adopt similar health and wellness practices.
