Partnership for Food Safety Education welcomes new visionaries to its Board

U.S – In a move to fortify the battleground against foodborne illnesses, the Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE) has strategically expanded its leadership ranks.

This coalition, revered for its pivotal role in public health through educational innovation, has announced the induction of a dynamic quartet into its Board of Directors, alongside the appointment of a seasoned Board advisor.

The infusion of new perspectives promises to steer the PFSE into new horizons of consumer safety and awareness.

The newly appointed Board members, Jane DeMarchi of the North American Millers’ Association, Dr. Stefanie Evans, and Dr. H. Lester Schonberger of Virginia Tech/Virginia Cooperative Extension, alongside Board advisor Sharon Mayl of DLA Piper, represent a multidisciplinary powerhouse.

Their collective expertise spans across the vast fields of food production, public health, legal frameworks, and educational outreach, poised to propel the PFSE’s mission into uncharted territories.

Harold Chase, the PFSE Board Chair, expressed enthusiasm over the new appointments, emphasizing the Board’s dedication to spearheading initiatives that significantly reduce foodborne illness risk among consumers.

“Our talented Board of Directors is dedicated to stewarding PFSE to be effective at helping people reduce their risk of foodborne illness at home,” Chase remarked, highlighting the strategic vision guiding the Board’s endeavors.

Honoring the legacy, embracing the future

As these luminaries step into their roles, the PFSE also pays homage to outgoing Board members Michael Roberson of Publix Super Markets and Dr. Shauna C. Henley of the University of Maryland Extension. Their unwavering commitment and contributions have laid a robust foundation for the organization’s future pursuits.

In a parallel stride towards enhancing its educational outreach, the PFSE is proud to announce the inclusion of four new contributing partners: Albertsons, Amazon, Home Chef, and SmartLabel by the Consumer Brands Association. This expansion not only diversifies the PFSE’s arsenal of resources but also enriches its strategic capacity to deploy food safety education on a grand scale.

Britanny Saunier, the PFSE Executive Director, accentuated the significance of these collaborations.

“The Partnership’s historical leadership in public-private collaboration is unique and important to making an impact on foodborne illnesses,” he stated.

Saunier further acknowledged the collective efforts of the Board, contributing partners, federal liaisons, and food safety educators in spearheading a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at fostering safe food handling practices among home cooks.
