USA – Perdue Foods LLC, based in Perry, Georgia, has issued a recall of more than 167,000 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nuggets and tenders, following concerns that the products may contain metal fragments.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall after Perdue Foods received consumer complaints about metal wire embedded in the chicken products.

The potentially contaminated products were produced on March 23, 2024, and include various vacuum-sealed packages of chicken nuggets and tenders.

Specifically, the recall affects 22-ounce packages of “PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets,” 29-ounce packages of “PERDUE Chicken Breast Tenders,” and 22-ounce packages of “BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets,” all with a “Best If Used By” date of March 23, 2025.

These items bear the establishment number “P-33944” on the back of the packaging and were distributed to retail locations nationwide, as well as sold online directly to consumers.

To date, no injuries or adverse health effects have been reported in connection with the consumption of these products.

Perdue Foods, established in 2008, operates as part of Perdue Farms, a major player in the U.S. meat industry with headquarters in Salisbury, Maryland.

Perdue Farms, which also owns Perdue AgriBusiness, reported annual sales of US$8B in 2021, solidifying its status as a leading poultry, turkey, and pork processing company in the country.
