USA — As detailed in Petcurean’s recently released second annual Sustainability Impact Report, the company has achieved carbon neutrality for Scopes 1 and 2 by offsetting all of its greenhouse gas emissions during the past three years through a partnership with Native Energy, a B Corporation that develops sustainability solutions.

The pet food manufacturer offset an equivalent of 288 tonnes of CO2, which includes emissions from electricity, natural gas and fleet vehicles equivalent to 123,000 liters of gas, 192 homes worth of electricity and 12,000 propane cylinders.

“We’re excited to share the progress we’ve made through our second annual Sustainability Impact Report, which showcases our vision to contribute to a more sustainable future, and how we’re committed to making a positive impact on the planet for our beloved pets and community of pet parents,” said Christine Mallier, sustainability and community relations manager at Petcurean.

In the report, Petcurean revealed that it would be debuting a new recipe for its GO! SOLUTIONS line that will be formulated with a protein source that uses 82% less water compared to traditional farming.

Through its membership with the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC), Petcurean’s environmental performance has been constantly measured, verified and improved, yearly.

According to the company, it was the first Canadian company to sign PSC’s Packaging Pledge, demonstrating its commitment to switching most of its pet food packaging to recyclable solutions by 2025.

Petcurean’s four-year sustainability plan focuses on four main areas. The first is protecting the planet by optimizing its business operation and practices to reduce its environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable world.

To achieve this, Petcurean began manufacturing in Europe to help reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and publicly signed PSC’s Packaging Pledge at SuperZoo.

Second is empowering its personnel by supporting the physical, social, professional and financial wellbeing of its employees.

The company also offers a flexible, hybrid work environment to support its employees and reduce employee commutes, therefore reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The third area is supporting the community by giving back to those Petcurean serves. The company has partnered with non-profits, animal rescue organizations and other pet-centric companies to help raise funding, including CUDDLY and the Regional Animal Protection Society. In the past year, Petcurean has donated 918,878 pet food meals to cats and dogs in need.

The final area is dedication to governance by becoming more ethical, transparent and accountable throughout its business practices and operations.

Alongside its Sustainability Impact Report, Petcurean has launched a Supplier Code of Conduct, of which 80% of the company’s suppliers have signed, holding major suppliers accountable for environmental and social performance.
