India— Procter & Gamble (P&G) India, a consumer foods company, has announced the appointment of Kumar Venkatasubramanian as its new chief executive officer, effective May 1, 2024.

Kumar, who brings over 24 years of extensive experience in various sales roles, will succeed LV Vaidyanathan, who is stepping down from his position after 28 years of service to pursue personal interests.

Having started his journey with P&G in the sales team, Kumar rose among the ranks to leading P&G’s business in Australia and New Zealand as CEO, where he demonstrated his leadership prowess.

Over time, Kumar has been a key factor in driving the company’s growth, positioning him as a top contender for the CEO role.

“Kumar has played a pivotal role in P&G India’s growth trajectory in various roles in his career. Before moving to P&G Australia as its CEO, Kumar was leading the sales function for P&G India,” the company said.

Stanislav Vecera, President of P&G Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa, expressed his enthusiasm about Kumar’s appointment, highlighting his integral role in driving P&G India’s growth over the past two decades. Vecera emphasized Kumar’s familiarity with the Indian market and his contributions to shaping and executing P&G’s business strategies in the region.

According to P&G, Kumar’s strong background in sales and leadership will steer P&G India towards sustained growth and success in the dynamic consumer goods landscape, building on its legacy of delivering superior products.

Kumar has also backed himself for success in this position. “We will focus on a portfolio of daily use products where performance drives brand choice and raise the bar on all aspects of our superiority strategy – product, package, brand communication, retail execution, and value.” Kumar said.

After taking over, Kumar will oversee all four entities under P&G India – Procter & Gamble Hygiene & Health Care, Procter & Gamble Health, Gillette India and Procter & Gamble Home Products.

Taking over from LV won’t be an easy feat for Kumar. During his tenure, P&G India has advanced in delivering superior offerings to Indian consumers, achieving consistent growth, and intensifying efforts in key areas such as sustainability and inclusion.
