SOUTH AFRICA – Pizza Hut, the American restaurant chain and international franchise has opened a new store in Johannesburg, South Africa with ambitious plans to expand into Africa.

It provides Italian-American cuisine menu including pizza and pasta, as well as side dishes and desserts in a range of restaurants across Africa.

Pizza Hut restaurants now trade in 13 Sub-Saharan African countries, with an additional 90 stores in Morocco, Egypt and Algeria, bringing the total to 190 across the African continent.

Africa’s untapped opportunities presents them a potential market destination, especially for the world’s largest and fastest growing pizza chain.

“We are on track with the African growth story we started in September 2014 and we are hugely proud of our progress.

As we expand our footprint in these markets, we continue to add and develop strong local supply chain partners so that we can bring our top quality, affordable pizza to customers in African regions where pizza is not as prevalent as elsewhere in the world.

We believe everyone deserves to experience the power of truly great pizza.

Pizza Hut’s accessibility and quality means we are fast becoming Africa’s pizza brand of choice,” said Ewan Davenport, General Manager of Pizza Hut Africa.

Pizza Hut returned to Africa in 2015, the then general manager of Pizza Hut operations in Africa, saying ‘it was taking its time expanding on the continent’, something that would give it flexibility to respond to local tastes.

In its latest expansion into Africa, the restaurant operator entered Ethiopia with three new outlets, attracted by the country’s growing economy, forecast to grow 7.5% in the year 2017.
