ISRAEL – PoLoPo, an Israeli startup specializing in molecular farming, has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSM Ingredients, a global company focused on food ingredient innovation.
The collaboration aims to bring PoLoPo’s egg-free egg protein, derived from potatoes, to the commercial industry.
The protein, developed using genetically engineered potatoes, mimics the taste, texture, and nutritional profile of traditional egg protein.
PoLoPo’s SuperAA platform enables the potatoes to function as biofactories, producing proteins that are then extracted and processed into powder form.
The company’s goal is to provide a sustainable alternative to animal-based proteins, addressing concerns over the environmental impact of traditional food production.
CSM Ingredients, a company with a global presence in the food and baking sectors, develops and distributes a wide range of bakery ingredients, including pastry mixes, glazes, and toppings.
Its portfolio also includes brands such as Ulmer Spatz, Waldkorn, and Catherine.
The company is part of an Ingredient-Tech Platform that integrates other firms like HIFOOD, Comprital, and Parker Products to promote solutions aimed at improving human health and reducing environmental harm.
The partnership comes at a time when the plant protein market is experiencing significant growth.
The global plant protein ingredient market is projected to reach a value of US$14.19 billion in 2024.
With an estimated annual growth rate of 7.4%, the market is expected to more than double by 2034, reaching US$28.97 billion.
CSM Ingredients emphasizes sustainability and innovation as part of its “Thrive for Impact” strategy, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Its initiatives target improved nutrition, environmental health, and the development of ingredient technologies.
