SOUTH AFRICA – Tiger Brands has announced Praveen Balgobind as its new Chief Manufacturing Officer, effective immediately.
Balgobind, who has been serving in the role on an interim basis since February 2024, will now permanently join the executive leadership team, reporting directly to CEO Tjaart Kruger.
Balgobind’s academic credentials include an MBA, an MSc in Packaging Technology, a Bachelor of Technology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
Balgobind’s journey with Tiger Brands began in 2022 when he joined as Manufacturing Operations Support Director.
During his tenure as Acting Chief Manufacturing Officer, Balgobind successfully maintained the delivery of critical priorities while enhancing the focus on manufacturing across the organization.
With over two decades of general management experience in the supply chain sector, Balgobind has worked in more than 14 African countries, driving performance improvements and implementing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) standards.
His expertise spans process development, optimization, project management, people development, and quality control.
Balgobind is committed to advancing Tiger Brands’ manufacturing excellence.
“We will continue to drive our World Class Manufacturing journey, uphold our culture of safety and quality, and focus on continuous improvement and sustainability within our manufacturing processes,” he said.
Tiger Brands has been performing well financially.
The company reported a 10% increase in revenue, reaching R37.4 billion (US$1.99B), for the financial year ending September 30, 2023.
This growth was driven by an 11% price inflation, favorable foreign exchange gains of 1%, and a slight overall volume decline of 2%.
Cost containment initiatives and supply chain efficiencies contributed positively to the results, with a net benefit of R525 million (US$27.97M), surpassing the previous guidance by R65 million(US$3.46M).
