Reliance Consumer Products launches Spinner sports drink

INDIA – Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL) has entered the sports hydration drink segment with the launch of Spinner, a beverage co-created with former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan.

The drink, priced at Rs 10 (US$0.12) for a 150 ml bottle, aims to establish a strong presence in India’s growing sports beverage market.

According to RCPL, Spinner is set to lead the development of a sports beverage category worth up to US$1 billion within the next three years.

To enhance brand awareness and nationwide visibility, the company has partnered with top Indian Premier League (IPL) teams, including Lucknow Super Giants, SunRisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Mumbai Indians.

Spinner is available in three flavours – Lemon, Orange, and Nitro Blue.

Speaking about the launch, Muralitharan expressed his excitement about the product’s potential impact on hydration and active lifestyles.

“As an athlete, I know how important hydration is, especially when you’re on the move or playing a sport. Spinner is a game-changer that will empower every Indian to stay hydrated and active, no matter where they are or what they’re doing,” he said.

The launch comes ahead of an expected rise in demand for summer products, including soft drinks, ice creams, and cooling talc, as temperatures in Northern India remain 6-8 degrees above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Spinner sports drinks will be bottled at Muttiah Beverages’ plant in Mysore, which also bottles Campa soft drinks, an executive confirmed.

The sports drinks market in India is currently valued at approximately Rs 240 crore, but analysts suggest that the introduction of mass price points like Rs 10 could significantly expand the market over the next five years.

A report by Mordor Intelligence projects that India’s sports drinks market size will reach US$103.6 million by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.35% between 2025 and 2030.

Last month, RCPL also entered the rehydrating beverage category with the launch of RasKik Gluco Energy, priced at Rs 10 (US$0.12) per pack.

The RasKik range includes mango, apple, mixed fruit, coconut water, and nimbu pani.
