KENYA – Tuskys Supermarkets, Kenya’s leading retail chain, has appointed Daniel Kipchumba Koech, a former Africa sales and marketing director of Nairobi Bottlers Ltd and subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages into a role in the company.
Daniel will be serving as the retailer’s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) in charge of Marketing, Business Development and Customer Experience.
Tuskys chief executive, Dan Githua has also confirmed the recent appointment of Mr. Sylvester Kiptoo as the Chief Information Officer (CIO), joining the retailer from Kenya Airways.
The appointments are part of the retailer’s ongoing commitment to deepen its professional management pool geared at guaranteeing world-class corporate governance ahead of the planned listing on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
Daniel is set to spearhead the retailer’s ongoing efforts to enhance instore customer experience at Tuskys and its Mavazi clothes stores, while Mr Kiptoo will be involved in the firm’s digital transformation.
He will also lead efforts to sustain adoption of e-commerce and omni channel strategy, which is an approach that integrates a retailer’s in-store shopping experience with an online one.
“With the appointment, Koech, a seasoned commercial manager with broad leadership experience spanning over 17 years in commercial management and research both in the Service and Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Industries in Kenya will be taking charge as the Business Development lead for Tusker Mattresses in Kenya and Uganda,” said Githua.
The appointments, he added, have been effected to help crystallise the new Tusker Mattresses Corporate strategy by providing leadership in business growth, entering new business frontiers, and the rollout of new customer reach channels including e-commerce.
The newly picked chief information officer, Mr Kiptoo, also brings a wealth of experience in digital transformation having worked as Head of IT operations at Kenya Airways PLC.
He has 20 years of experience in Enterprise ICT delivery and management, including in IT Operations, Customer service delivery, Digital innovation, Purchasing and Supplies Management, leading high performing teams and financial Management and cost control.
Tuskys is implementing strategies that include franchising and consolidation with smaller retailers to dominate the sector.
The retailer is one of several local companies currently participating in the NSE’s Ibuka, an incubation and acceleration programme meant to prepare firms for possible future listing at the Nairobi bourse.
