SPAIN – Dutch animal nutrition company, Royal De Heus has signed an agreement to acquire Evialis Galicia, a Spanish compound feed plant owned by Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM).

With a volume of more than 50,000 tonnes of compound feed annually, Evialis Galicia has a leading regional position in northern Spain.

De Heus said the acquisition will strengthen its position in Spain’s large Iberian animal feed market.

Evialis Galicia, located in Sada, northwestern Spain was founded in 1974 by a collaboration of pig farmers to produce feed for their own sows.

Currently, the company offers a complete assortment of compound feeds for multiple animal categories, with a focus on feed for dairy cattle and rabbits.

De Heus said Evialis Galicia’s activities and its market approach complements the company’s operations in the open feed market.

In order to comply with the high quality standards of De Heus, the company plans to start an investment program resulting in optimizations and improvements in the production process.

“We are pleased with this acquisition. The take-over underlines our ambition to further reinforce our market position in Spain. This new plan enables us to improve our logistic service for customers in this region”, said Jean François Honoré, general manager De Heus Iberia.

New feed plant in Myanmar

De Heus has also opened a dedicated aqua feed production facility in Myanmar. Located in Myaung Dagar, the modern production site will produce more than 200,000 metric tons of aqua feed each year.

The facility marks the company’s third factory in Myanmar, and comes only three years after the opening of the first animal feed mill near Yangon and the opening of our second feed mill near Mandalay last year.

Arno Willemink, Managing Director of De Heus Myanmar said: “The production of animal protein in Myanmar is developing rapidly.

“Ultimately the goal is to provide our customers with high-quality feed products, advices and support that enable them to further professionalize their farms and find new markets for their products.”

Koen de Heus added: “We take pride in the advancement of our customers in a way that enables them to grow their business while at the same time reducing their impact on the local environment.”
