Royco launches new chilli cube

KENYA – Unilever Kenya has officially introduced the Royco Chilli Cube, a product designed to enhance the flavor of beans, responding to growing consumer demand for chili-based seasonings. 

The launch comes as a strategic move to meet the increasing popularity of Knorr chili cubes in the local market.

The addition of the Royco Chilli Cube builds on last year’s expansion of the Royco brand, which introduced a range of food spices tailored for the Kenyan market. 

The lineup includes pilau masala, curry, ginger, garlic, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, and paprika. These products aim to bring diverse culinary options to households across the region.

In addition to the spice range, Royco also launched wet and dry fry spices and nyama choma seasoning variants, which are processed and packaged locally at Njoro Canning. 

This collaboration involves sourcing raw materials from local farmers and aligns with Unilever’s commitment to sustainability through localization.

John Kibira, Unilever Kenya’s Head of Nutrition, stated that the Royco Spices collection reflects a blend of local and international culinary traditions. 

“We’ve meticulously developed our spices to deliver a rich diversity of flavors, from the zest of ginger to the depth of paprika,” Kibira said.

Unilever Managing Director Luck Ochieng highlighted the brand’s commitment to quality and sustainability. 

This comes as Royco, a household name in Kenya for five decades, continues to dominate the market in food seasoning. 

According to a Kantar World Panel report, Royco products are used in 60% of Kenyan households, making them a staple in many kitchens.
