GERMANY – Salzgitter AG, alongside its subsidiary KHS Group, has received validation from the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its comprehensive climate protection strategy.
The validation confirms that the company’s greenhouse gas reduction targets are in line with the international standards set by SBTi, reinforcing its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
The SBTi, an independent organization dedicated to combating the global climate crisis, provides companies with frameworks and tools to establish and validate specific targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In collaboration with its parent company, Salzgitter AG, KHS Group submitted both short-term and long-term CO2 reduction goals.
These goals, which are consistent with the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement and the global 1.5°C temperature rise limit, have now been officially validated by SBTi.
As part of this initiative, KHS Group aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 36% by 2028, compared to its 2021 baseline.
This reduction target covers emissions directly produced through combustion (scope 1) and those indirectly generated from purchased electricity (scope 2) across all its global sites.
KHS Group, a leader in the manufacture of filling and packaging systems for the beverage and liquid food industries, operates several production facilities worldwide, including locations in India, the USA, Mexico, Brazil, and China.
The company’s headquarters and major manufacturing plants are based in Germany.
The validation by SBTi underscores KHS Group’s ongoing efforts to align its operations with global climate goals, positioning the company as a key player in the industry’s shift towards sustainability.
The Science-Based Targets initiative is supported by leading global organizations such as the CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute, and the World Wide Fund for Nature.
