Saudi Arabia’s Al-Watania Poultry evaluates potential sale

SAUDI ARABIA – Al-Watania Poultry, a leading Saudi Arabian poultry producer, is reportedly considering a sale of its business and has brought on advisers to evaluate the possibility.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the company has engaged BSF Capital to explore potential options.

The Qassim-based company produces more than one million chickens and 1.5 million eggs daily, according to its official website.

Al-Watania, established in 1977 by Sheikh Suleiman Al Rajhi, employs over 7,500 people and controls approximately 30% of Saudi Arabia’s poultry market, according to a recent statement shared on Zawya, a regional media platform.

With a significant footprint across the Gulf region, Al-Watania commands a 40% share of the regional poultry market.

The company operates over a sprawling area of 200 square kilometers, which houses residential facilities, industrial operations, and technical departments.

In addition to its production capacity, Al-Watania emphasizes compliance with Islamic dietary laws in its operations.

The company also promotes high-quality standards, having been among the first poultry firms in the Middle East to secure ISO certification for quality management systems.

Al-Watania currently holds updated certifications, including ISO 9001-2000, HACCP, and SQF 2000.

Nine years ago, Al-Watania explored plans to list on the Saudi stock exchange, according to Reuters.

While that move did not materialize, the company has continued to invest in infrastructure.

A few weeks ago, it inaugurated a state-of-the-art cooling plant aimed at enhancing productivity and efficiency within its facilities.

Al-Watania’s contributions to Saudi Arabia’s poultry supply chain and food security have positioned it as a major player in the global poultry sector.

Its commitment to utilizing modern technology aligns with broader national goals for economic growth and sustainability in the agriculture industry.

The company’s latest developments come at a time of growing interest in Saudi Arabia’s food production capabilities, as the Kingdom works toward achieving greater self-sufficiency in food supply.
