Scandi Standard to invest US$18.8M in Lithuanian poultry farms

LITHUANIA – Swedish poultry company Scandi Standard is in the process of purchasing six poultry farms in Lithuania as it seeks to expand its production capacity.

The company is investing US$18.8 million (€18 million) in the acquisition, with each farm set to be acquired separately throughout 2025.

This move follows Scandi Standard’s previous expansion in Lithuania, where it acquired a poultry processing facility in the fourth quarter of 2024.

As part of that deal, the company secured poultry farms capable of producing up to 6,000 tonnes of grill weight.

With the additional capacity from the new farms, Scandi Standard will have the ability to produce up to 25,000 tonnes of poultry meat per shift.

The company has also purchased land in Lithuania that is suitable for developing more poultry farms.

It stated that the latest acquisitions will help integrate its supply chain while keeping land available for future expansion.

Scandi Standard said it aims to eventually double its production capacity in Lithuania, aligning with its plans to increase its ability to supply breaded poultry products from its operations in the Netherlands.

Company CEO Jonas Tunestål said the Lithuanian operations will strengthen its ability to cater to price-sensitive customers.

He emphasized that the deal enhances the company’s control over production while maintaining high standards for animal welfare, food safety, and product quality.

Tunestål also noted that the acquisition complements the company’s recent purchase of two high-efficiency breaded poultry production lines in the Netherlands, allowing it to offer a more integrated product range.

He expressed satisfaction with the company’s progress in Lithuania and said he expects the acquisition to contribute to higher earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) for the group.

Stockholm-headquartered Scandi Standard produces a range of ready-to-eat, chilled, and frozen poultry products under brands such as Kronfågel, Danpo, Den Stolte Hane, Manor Farm, and Naapurin Maalaiskana.

The company employs over 3,200 people and reports annual sales exceeding US$1.22 billion (SEK13 billion).
