USA – Seaboard Triumph Foods (STF), a joint venture between Seaboard Foods and Triumph Foods has announced that it plans to increase production with a full second shift at its pork processing facility in Sioux City, Iowa by mid-October.
The second shift has been running since May but on a limited basis, with continued hiring and training targeted to employ 2,000 people.
Meat and Poultry reported that at full two-shift capacity, the facility will process 21,000 market hogs daily.
The 750,000-square-foot facility in Sioux City was inaugurated in September 2017 and produces a full line of fresh pork products for retail, foodservice, international and further processing markets.
A second shift will allow the company increase production of pork products sold under Seaboard’s PrairieFresh Premium Pork and Seaboard Farms brands
In addition, the plant will supply Daily’s Premium Meats, another joint venture the two companies, formed when Seaboard sold half of the company to Triumph Foods for $72.5 million.

Construction of the facility dates 2015 with a total cost near US$300 million featuring an ultrasound evaluation system for all carcasses, robotics, and product-segregation capability.
Seaboard Triumph Foods said that approximately 30% of the market hogs at the plant were sourced from regional farmers while the rest by Triumph Foods producer-owners and Seaboard Foods’ farms.
“We are so appreciative of the collaborative efforts with the regional hog producers who have helped supply our plant,” Porter added.
“Continuing to build new and strengthen existing relationships with those producers is very important to us.”
