IRELAND – Sealed Air, one of the leading packaging companies in the US, has acquired Irish packaging solutions company Foxpak Flexibles in an effort to expand its presence in Europe.
The Charlotte, North Carolina-based company carried out the acquisition through SEE Ventures, a company initiative that focuses on investing in ‘disruptive’ technologies and business models.
Foxpak has developed digital flexible and compostable packaging and uses digital printing capabilities to print directly onto its flexible packaging materials.
Founded in 2001, Foxpak currently serves customers in more than 30 countries and claims to efficiently scale up or down its solution in line with customer specifications.
The privately-owned company works in collaboration with major brands to offer packaging solutions, stand-up, and spout pouches and sachets.
Its products are exported to Northern Ireland, the UK, Europe and the US, where they are used for various applications in the food retail, pet food, seafood and snack food markets.
With the addition of Foxpak, Sealed Air aims to help advance innovations in smart packaging.

Sealed Air currently serves customers in 117 countries and territories, employing around 16,500 people in total.
Earlier this month, Sealed Air introduced two new CRYOVAC Brand ECO BDF films to its range of recycle-ready barrier display films.
The new range includes ECO BDF20M, which is made from 100% virgin materials, and ECO rBDF20M, a barrier display film reportedly containing 30% Certified Circular Resins (CCR).
According to Sealed Air, the new films are designed for compatibility with LDPE mechanical and chemical recycling processes.
In addition, the sustainability benefits of the new ECO BDF films are apparently enhanced through an ultra-thin barrier, with both films being 21 microns – making them lighter and thinner than other widely used thermoformable films, according to Sealed Air.
The films are also compatible with the new CRYOVAC Brand TA4X range of hot air shrink tunnels and also feature a range of hot air vault configurations and variable speed drives for packaging a variety of foods, including fresh meat, poultry, fish, and cheese.
