INDIA – The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) which owns one of India’s leading milk brands Amul has re-elected Shamal Patel as chairman in a unanimous decision.
Patel brings with him years of experience, knowledge, and familiarity in the dairy federation as he has been associated with dairy cooperatives of Gujarat for the last 33 years.
Patel is also the chairman of Sabar Dairy Union, one of the most successful dairy unions in India whose annual sales exceed RS6,800 crore (US$ 834,499,400) and a farmer membership of over 3.85 lakh milk producers.
The GCMMF is one of India’s largest dairy cooperatives, with over 2 million members across 16 districts in Gujarat
The organization is responsible for marketing and distributing milk and other dairy products. The cooperative reported a turnover of RS46,481 crore (US$5,702,730,649) in its last financial year, an increase of 15% from the previous.
Shamal Patel was first elected as chairman in July 2020 and has recently been re-elected after his tenure of two and a half years came to an end.
During his tenure, he has been credited with significant improvements in the organization’s performance, by introducing initiatives that helped improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the federation, leading to increased revenues and profits.
With its long-standing history and commitment to excellence, GCMMF has been at the forefront of innovation and progress in India for decades.
“Dairy cooperatives of Gujarat have been successful for the last seven decades due to high values and standards set by its founder leaders like Tribhuvandas Patel and Kurien,” said Patel.
He insisted that the founder leaders combined their dynamic farmer leadership and professional management to make GCMMF one of the largest food organization in the country.
The organization also recently appointed Jayen Mehta to succeed RS Sodhi as managing director.
Sodhi who had served the company for 40 years said in a statement that he had requested the federation’s board to relieve him of his duties.
The reelection of Patel was conducted by the deputy collector of Anand together with 17 of the 18 members who represent their district unions in the state.
