UAE – Silal recently organized a field visit to the Netherlands for its contracted farmers, allowing them to engage with industry leaders and explore advanced agricultural technologies.
The initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to equipping local farmers with practical knowledge that can enhance food production in the United Arab Emirates.
During the visit, farmers interacted with experts and companies at the forefront of agricultural development.
They learned about efficient farming techniques and innovative solutions designed to improve productivity and sustainability. The exposure provided valuable insights that could contribute to the growth of the UAE’s agricultural sector.
Silal has been strengthening its position in the fresh produce market with key developments in recent months. One major step was its acquisition of a majority stake in Al Bakrawe Holding on September 4, 2024.
Al Bakrawe Holding plays a significant role in the import, export, and distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables across the region. Through this acquisition, Silal aims to expand its supply chain capabilities by leveraging Al Bakrawe’s established global sourcing network.
Another notable milestone was the launch of a large-scale facility at the Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD) on June 26, 2024. Spanning 41,000 square meters, the facility is equipped with high-tech warehouses and cold storage rooms to ensure food preservation standards are met.
This infrastructure investment is expected to enhance distribution efficiency and contribute to the UAE’s food security agenda.
Strengthening industry partnerships
Silal has also been forming strategic collaborations to drive agricultural advancements. On December 11, 2024, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives (MBRGI) to implement the Food Innovation Hub UAE’s Access Program.
This initiative seeks to support sustainable agricultural practices and promote food security.
In addition, Silal partnered with Bayer on December 9, 2024, to develop innovative solutions aimed at improving agricultural productivity.
By working with Bayer, the company is seeking to introduce modern farming techniques that align with global sustainability goals.
These recent efforts highlight Silal’s focus on strengthening the agricultural sector by providing farmers with direct exposure to global advancements while expanding its market presence through strategic investments and partnerships.
“Through these initiatives, we continue to empower local farmers and reinforce our commitment to a resilient and sustainable food system,” a Silal spokesperson stated.
