RWANDA – Skol Brewery Ltd (SBL), a subsidiary of Belgium-based UNIBRA, has expanded its product lineup with the introduction of Maltona, a new non-alcoholic malted beverage.

Crafted with premium natural ingredients, Maltona is designed to offer a high-quality drinking experience for all. The bottle features a blend of modern and African patterns, giving it a premium look.

Marie-Paule Niwemfura, SBL’s Marketing Manager, expressed excitement about the new product, stating, “We are thrilled to launch Maltona, a non-alcoholic beverage that exemplifies our dedication to quality and innovation. Maltona’s natural ingredients and refreshing taste make it a go-to choice for those seeking a flavorful beverage without alcohol.”

To promote Maltona, SBL has initiated a nationwide campaign themed “UBURYOHE BUMARA INYOTA.” The beverage, which contains 0.0% ABV, is available at a recommended price of RWF 600 per bottle.

In addition to expanding its product offerings, SBL has also taken steps to enhance sustainability within its operations.

In February 2024, SBL partnered with Total Energies to adopt Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for its brewery operations. This collaboration includes a comprehensive LPG supply contract, primarily for the needs of forklifts and boilers at the SKOL Brewery facility.

This initiative aligns with SKOL’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and embracing greener manufacturing processes.

The launch of Maltona coincides with a growing trend in the non-alcoholic beverage market. According to the IWSR, no-alcohol volumes are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 9 percent between 2022 and 2026.

Other brands making waves in the African market include Heineken 0.0%, Castle Free, and Savanna non-alcoholic lemon.
