Som Distilleries invests US$68.87M in Greenfield brewery and distillery project in India 

INDIA – Som Distilleries and Breweries Ltd (SDBL) has announced an investment of Rs 600 crore (US$68.87M) for the establishment of a greenfield project in Khimsepur, Uttar Pradesh.  

The project, led by its subsidiary Woodpecker Greenagri Nutrients Pvt Ltd, will include a brewery, distillery, and multiple manufacturing facilities. 

The Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) has allocated approximately 40 acres for the project. SDBL is set to begin construction once it secures the necessary regulatory approvals from the state government. 

In a disclosure to stock exchanges, the company emphasized that expanding into Uttar Pradesh aligns with its strategy to establish a nationwide presence.  

As India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh offers a vast consumer base, favorable demographics, and pro-business industrial policies, making it a strategic location for investment.

The state’s favorable business environment and immense market potential make it an ideal location for our new facility. We are committed to delivering high-quality products while contributing to local economic growth and employment generation.” 

Som Distilleries and Breweries is a leading manufacturer of alcoholic beverages in India, with an established presence in multiple states. The company’s product portfolio includes beer, rum, brandy, vodka, and whisky.  

It currently operates three breweries in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha and continues to expand its footprint with advanced production facilities. 

Financial Performance

In the third quarter of the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024, SDBL posted a 12.2% increase in revenue, reaching Rs 56,195.99 lakh (US$64.5M), up from Rs 50,079.93 lakh (US$57.5M) in the same period last year.  

Profit before tax rose 22.7% to Rs 2,915.74 lakh (US$3.3M), while net profit increased 19.6% to Rs 2,151.31 lakh (US$2.5M). Earnings Per Share (EPS) – Basic improved by 18.3%, reaching Rs 1.10. 

For the nine months ended December 31, 2024, the company recorded a 24.5% year-on-year increase in revenue, reaching Rs 214,797.65 lakh (US$246.5M).  

Profit before tax grew 29.7%, while net profit climbed 21.4%, underscoring the company’s strong financial performance.
