NIGERIA – The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has reached a momentous milestone as its Management Systems Certification (MSC) department secures accreditation from the International Accreditation Service (IAS).
The accreditation covers four globally recognized Management System Standards, including Quality Management System (QMS) ISO 9001:2015, Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) ISO 45001:2018, Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001:2015, and Food Safety Management System (FSMS) ISO 22000:2018.
The accreditation follows a rigorous assessment conducted by IAS, affirming that SON MSC department’s operations and audits align with the stringent requirements of international standards. This comprehensive evaluation reflects SON’s dedication to upholding industry-leading benchmarks and delivering exceptional quality services.
The ISO 9001:2015 standard helps ensure that consumers get reliable, desired quality goods and services. One of its pivotal benefits is the promotion of internal policy and procedure integration, which contributes to improved operational efficiency.
Moreover, achieving ISO 9001 certification establishes a framework for fostering a culture of continuous improvement within UNBS, ensuring that the organization remains dynamic and adaptive to evolving needs.
Meanwhile, the ISO 22000 set of standards are global voluntary consensus norms that adhere to the World Trade Organization’s (WTO’s) Principles for the Development of International Standards and Good Standardization Practices (GSP).
It outlines the specifications for developing an FSMS that drives continuous improvement of all processes with an impact on the safety of end-products. No matter how big or where it is in the food chain, any business can use it.
Engr Obiageli P. Egbuciem, Acting Director of SON MSC department, expressed delight over the accreditation, hailing it as a badge of honor for the organization.
She emphasized that the accreditation not only acknowledges the efforts of the SON MSC department but also highlights the proficiency and expertise of SON auditors.
Their evaluations have been instrumental in achieving this significant milestone, reinforcing SON’s commitment to international best practices.
Egbuciem emphasized that the accreditation catalyzes further advancements in SON’s journey toward continuous improvement. It reflects the team’s relentless pursuit of excellence and unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards. This achievement positions SON as a global leader in quality assurance and certification, driving positive change across industries.
