SOUTH AFRICA – The south-western region of South Africa, celebrated for its unique flora, is bringing its renowned Fynbos plants to a global audience.
From January 28 to 31, 2025, the Import Promotion Desk (IPD) and Cape Flora South Africa will showcase the exceptional diversity of Fynbos at IPM Essen, Germany. This exhibition will take place at Hall 1, Stand 1D12.
“The Cape region offers perfect conditions for the Fynbos biome. This extraordinary diversity will surprise some buyers and enrich the European cut flower offer,” an IPD representative shared.
Known for its array of endemic plants, Fynbos includes striking varieties such as King Protea, colorful Leucadendrons, and intricate Brunia and Berzelia species.
Small and medium-sized enterprises form the backbone of Fynbos production. These farms specialize in cultivating, collecting, and breeding rare plant varieties.
For example, ’34 Degrees South,’ an IPD-supported company, will present exceptional offerings like the Ayoba Jade Pearl, Madiba, and Red Rex Proteas.
Buyers at IPM Essen will have the chance to engage directly with representatives from ’34 Degrees South.’
This interaction allows them to learn about the benefits of direct trade and the sustainable practices behind Fynbos cultivation.
By fostering these exchanges, the program aims to promote long-term partnerships and expand market access for South African growers.
IPM Essen, the leading global trade fair for horticulture, offers an unparalleled platform for innovation, networking, and showcasing trends in the green sector.
This year’s event promises an exciting lineup of activities, including discussions and lectures on current horticultural topics at the Gardeners’ Forum.
Attendees can explore advancements in sustainable practices at the Innovation Center for Horticulture Technology, which will delve into reducing peat use, automation, and energy efficiency.
Live demonstrations by top florists will highlight creative craftsmanship in floral design, while the IPM Trade Fair Cup will showcase innovative floral displays in various categories.
IPM Essen 2025 serves as a significant event for South African exporters to connect with international buyers, gain visibility, and grow their market presence. For the European market, the addition of Fynbos offers fresh inspiration and variety to floral collections.
