INDIA – The Zebra Technologies’ 17th Annual Global Shopper Study has found that 77% of Indian shoppers prefer retailers that offer personalized recommendations, emphasizing a growing demand for AI-driven shopping experiences.
According to the study, more retailers in India and the broader Asia-Pacific (APAC) region are turning to AI-based solutions.
The study highlights that 52% of Indian retailers are planning to introduce AI for loss prevention in the coming years.
Currently, only 38% of retailers in APAC use AI-based prescriptive analytics to address theft and inventory concerns, but this number is expected to exceed 50% within the next three years.
Retailers are incorporating AI tools such as computer vision, self-checkout cameras, and RFID tags to address theft and stock management issues.
Shoppers are also expressing frustration with common retail challenges, with 78% reporting dissatisfaction over locked-up products and 70% struggling to find in-store assistance.
These concerns are driving retailers to seek more efficient solutions to enhance customer satisfaction.
Despite steady global consumer spending, the study reveals a slight drop in customer satisfaction levels. In-store satisfaction in APAC declined from 81% to 78%, while online shopping satisfaction fell from 80% to 75%.
A key issue remains the availability of store associates, with 22% of shoppers in APAC leaving stores without making a purchase due to a lack of assistance.
To address these concerns, 79% of retailers in the region plan to increase investment in mobile technology. This will enable better inventory visibility and improve associate efficiency.
Retailers focused on improving customer trust are prioritizing personalized shopping, streamlined checkouts, and real-time stock tracking.
Several Indian retail giants have already embraced AI to improve shopping experiences. Reliance Retail has implemented AI-driven systems to enhance customer engagement and optimize operations.
Future Group uses AI technologies such as computer vision and machine learning to refine store layouts, manage stock levels, and provide tailored shopping experiences.
Tata Cliq has also integrated AI to offer personalized product recommendations and improve customer service through chatbots and virtual assistants.
Shoppers Stop is leveraging AI-powered tools for better customer insights, marketing strategies, and efficient stock management.
Meanwhile, Big Bazaar employs AI for real-time stock tracking and personalized promotions to enhance overall shopping convenience.
