INDIA – Sula Vineyards, India’s largest wine producer, has expanded its wine portfolio with the launch of Sula Merlot to mark the brand’s 25th anniversary.
This is the first new addition to the core Sula wine series in nearly a decade, reflecting the brand’s ongoing commitment to delivering world-class wines to consumers across India.
Merlot, a globally popular red grape variety, is known for its soft, fruity, and approachable wines.
Sula’s new release brings these characteristics to the Indian market with a rich, velvety texture and notes of chocolate and cherries.
Gorakh Gaikwad, Chief Winemaker at Sula Vineyards, expressed his excitement about the launch: “Sula Merlot embodies our 25-year journey in the Indian wine industry. It’s a smooth, lush red, perfectly suited to the Indian palate and best enjoyed slightly chilled.”
The newly launched Sula Merlot is now available at select retail outlets in Mumbai and Pune, priced at Rs 895 (US$10.68).
The wine is expected to appeal to both seasoned wine lovers and new enthusiasts, offering a refreshing and elegant option for various occasions.
Sula Vineyards holds over 50% of India’s domestic wine market, producing and distributing over 1 million cases annually.
The company operates five wineries across Maharashtra and Karnataka, offering nearly 70 different wine labels.
In the first quarter of FY 2025, Sula reported a 9.7 percent growth in revenue to INR 129.6 crore (US$15.47M), marking its highest-ever first-quarter revenue.
In July, the company announced plans to expand its wine tourism operations by launching a 30-room resort at York Winery, located on the company’s Nashik property, in 2026.
Currently, as part of its tourism and hospitality business, Sula has two other hotels – the 37-room Beyond by Sula and the 66-room The Source at Sula.
