INDIA – The online food delivery company, Swiggy has appointed Dale Vaz, former Amazon India engineering head as its new head of engineering and data sciences, ET Retail has revealed.

Vaz brings in eleven years of experience from Amazon with his most recent role as the director of software engineering.

He will be responsible for driving the company’s technology strategy as well as build its AI driven platform for hyperlocal discovery and on-demand delivery.

Working closely with Swiggy CTO Rahul Jaimini and reporting directly to CEO Sriharsha Majety, the company said Vaz will work on customer experience around several new initiatives.

He is a holder of a B.E in Computer Science from MIT, Manipal and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with years of experience from Infosys where he worked before he joined Amazon.

Swiggy has been developing its technology to suit recent advancements in the ecommerce space with the recent launch of its cloud kitchen, ‘The Bowl Company’, in select areas in Bengaluru.

In March, the company said it will use digital payments for its delivery fleet by use of a privately-run ICICI Bank.

Recent senior-level hires at Swiggy include the appointment of former Procter & Gamble (P&G) executive Vivek Sunder as first ever Chief Operating Officer for its business.

It expanded its footprint in India with new operations in Nagpur.
