Symrise relaunches beverage incubator as bWorks to drive innovation

USA – Symrise has relaunched its beverage incubator, Califormulations, under a new name—bWorks—marking the completion of its transition from a partial investment to a full acquisition.

Since 2019, the company has been delivering end-to-end beverage innovation for consumer-packaged goods (CPG) brands, and with this rebranding, bWorks aims to further enhance its incubation capabilities and expand its market presence.

Building on its legacy of providing innovative beverage solutions, bWorks offers comprehensive services from concept development to market-ready products.

The incubator integrates consumer insights, flavor expertise, rapid prototyping, and agile manufacturing, ensuring both small-scale and large-scale production capabilities.

This approach enables brands to bring beverages to market with the right size, flavor profile, and speed.

“Our modular services, from insights and design to prototyping, development, and full-scale production, make us the ideal partner in our customers’ beverage innovation journey,” said Fernando Levy, Senior Director of Beverages BU NA.

“Customers can obtain limited-edition runs, line extensions, regional or national launches, or long-term productions from us. bWorks adapts to customer needs through our bundle services and longstanding flavor expertise.”

bWorks will continue to operate across three beverage-focused locations in the United States: Teterboro, NJ, Columbus, GA, and Laguna Beach, CA.

The Columbus, GA, facility provides manufacturing agility, with production runs ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 cases per SKU across various packaging formats, including cans, bottles, and bag-in-box solutions.

The site has also received certification from the Department of Agriculture as an approved food manufacturing facility, holding SQF Level 3, FSMA/HACCP certification.

Additionally, it has alcohol permits and offers certifications for Organic, Kosher, and Halal products.

Strategic partnerships and global expansion

The relaunch of bWorks comes as Symrise continues to expand its footprint through strategic collaborations and market investments.

Recently, the company partnered with Norwegian manufacturer Hofseth BioCare ASA (HBC) to strengthen its presence in the human and pet nutrition markets. This collaboration aims to integrate HBC’s clinically proven marine ingredients into Symrise’s portfolio, while also accelerating HBC’s global reach.

As part of the partnership, HBC is upgrading its Berkak facility into a state-of-the-art enzymatic hydrolysis plant to triple production capacity.

Additionally, Symrise has signed an agreement for a 30,000 m² land plot in Giza, Egypt, as part of its expansion plans across Africa and the Middle East.

Symrise Egypt currently operates multiple facilities, including production sites, an innovation center, a quality control lab, and sales and marketing offices.

The new consolidated site will enhance operational efficiency, streamline communication, and foster collaboration across business functions.
