Sysco expands in Scotland with acquisition of Campbell’s Prime Meat

SCOTLAND – Sysco Corporation, the U.S.-based foodservice giant, is acquiring Scotland’s Campbell’s Prime Meat, a century-old meat and fish supplier based in Linlithgow.

The family-owned business, founded over 100 years ago, currently employs 325 people and supplies a wide range of products, including beef, pork, lamb, poultry, seafood, game, and deli items.

Campbell’s Prime Meat will remain an independent brand following the acquisition, operating separately but receiving support from Sysco, according to a statement.

The acquisition is also expected to expand Campbell’s customer base, though the financial terms were not disclosed. The deal was finalized through Sysco GB.

Christopher Campbell, CEO of Campbell’s Prime Meat, expressed optimism about the company’s future with Sysco.

“Sysco is an ideal partner for us as we enter a new phase of growth. We’ve spent the last century establishing ourselves as a top catering butcher in Scotland, and Sysco’s approach aligns with our goals to maintain and grow that reputation.”

Campbell added that the agreement will give the company new market access and broaden its reach for its meat, fish, and deli offerings.

“We’re looking forward to what lies ahead as we expand the business,” he said.

Paul Nieduszynski, CEO of Sysco GB, shared enthusiasm for the addition of Campbell’s to the Sysco family.

Sysco, which markets and distributes food products globally, employs more than 76,000 people across 340 distribution facilities.

For the fiscal year ending July 1, 2024, Sysco reported over US$78 billion in sales.

In the first quarter of fiscal year 2025, ending September 28, Sysco’s sales rose by 4.4% to US$20.5 billion, while gross profit grew by 2.9%, reaching US$3.8 billion.
