Austrian food company Agrana invests US$29m in expanding starch production capacity

AUSTRIA – International food ingredients supplier Agrana has announced a €25 million (about US$29m) investment in additional capacity at its three starch factories in Austria.   According to a statement from the company, €12 million will be used in expanding capacity at the Agrana plant in Gmünd which is Austria’s only potato starch factory.  The investment involves building a spraying tower – a drying plant for infant formula, maltodextrin, and dried glucose syrup – in addition to installing a drum-drying plant for dehydrated potato products.  Expansion works in Gmünd are estimated to…

Sofina Foods, Agrana make new acquisitions to expand capacity, market share

US/JAPAN – Canadian manufacturer of primary and further-processed protein products, Sofina Foods has agreed to acquire seafood and pork provider Eight Fifty Food Group from funds managed by private equity firm CapVest Partners. Agrana invests US$3.75m at R&D sites in in France and Austria

AUSTRIA – Agrana, a Vienna-headquartered food company is investing around €3.4 million (US$3.75m) at two research and development sites in France and Austria this year. The investment includes €2.6 million (US$2.87m) in France to open a new development centre for fruit preparation in Mitry-Mory and €800,000 for the expansion of the Austrian research centre ARIC in Tulln. Agrana and Amalgamated Sugar forms JV to construct US$45m betaine plant

EUROPE – The sugar and starch processing company, Agrana has joined forces with US-based Amalgamated Sugar to build a US$45 million (€40 million) betaine crystallization plant in Austria. Agrana acquires 49% of Elafruits extending its presence in Africa

AUSTRALIA – Austrian ingredients producer Agrana has extended its presence in Africa by acquiring 49% of Elafruits, an Algerian producer of fruit preparations. Located in Akbou, around 200 km east of Algiers, Elafruits has a workforce of around 100 and generated revenues of approximately US$8.16 million in its 2017 financial year.
