Tanmiah Food Company is partnering with Emerge to install a solar power plant at its facility in Saudi Arabia.
SAUDI ARABIA – Tanmiah Food Company, a major poultry producer in the Middle East, is working with Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group, to install a solar power plant at its Haradh facility in Saudi Arabia.
Emerge will develop a 3 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar installation that will supply 35% of the electricity needed to operate the agricultural processing site.
The agreement, signed at the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, involves Zulfiqar Hamadani, Tanmiah’s Group CEO, and Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge.
As part of the deal, Emerge will finance, design, procure, build, operate, and maintain the solar facility for 25 years.
The plant is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 3,850 tonnes annually, which is equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of over 800 households.
Hamadani said the project aligns with Tanmiah’s long-term sustainability goals and Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 renewable energy objectives.
Abi Saab noted that Saudi Arabia’s agriculture sector is shifting towards cleaner energy sources and that Emerge is supporting businesses like Tanmiah in transitioning to more sustainable operations.
He added that the turnkey solar solution, offered without upfront costs, simplifies the adoption of renewable energy for commercial and industrial customers.
A few weeks before this agreement, Tanmiah signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Griffith Foods, a company specializing in food ingredients, to expand its product offerings and improve regional distribution.
Griffith Foods develops and supplies seasonings, marinades, sauces, and coating systems, which Tanmiah plans to integrate into its operations.
The collaboration supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals by contributing to food security, self-sufficiency, and sustainability across the supply chain.
Under the agreement, the two companies are negotiating a supply arrangement that combines Griffith Foods’ ingredient expertise with Tanmiah’s market presence.
In addition to the supply deal, they are considering forming a joint venture in Saudi Arabia to explore growth opportunities and improve operations.
The partnership also includes plans to establish an advanced research and development center in the country to enhance product innovation.
