TANZANIA – Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Tanzania have officially handed over a solar-powered water system infrastructure in Kihara District, marking a significant milestone in their joint efforts to address water scarcity and promote environmental sustainability.

This project is aimed at providing clean, reliable water access to local communities and supporting both households and livestock in the region.

The handover of the solar-powered water system was accompanied by the launch of a pilot restoration initiative under the Bankable Nature Solutions (BNbS) model.

This approach promotes sustainable water security and ecosystem protection, ensuring that conservation efforts remain financially viable while benefiting both the environment and the local economy.

Kibaha District Commissioner Nickson Simon highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the country’s water challenges, particularly in rapidly urbanizing areas like Pwani and Dar es Salaam.

“Water is a critical resource for the growth of our communities and the economy. This partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing water scarcity. The efforts of TBL and WWF Tanzania are a crucial step toward ensuring sustainable access to clean water for all,” Simon remarked.

The solar-powered water system aligns with TBL’s broader commitment to sustainability and community development.

The initiative also reflects the company’s goal of making a positive impact on the communities it serves while conserving Tanzania’s natural resources.

Michelle Kilpin, Managing Director of TBL, emphasized the importance of sustainability in TBL’s operations.

“This solar-powered water system and the launch of the Bankable Nature Solutions pilot represent a critical step toward ensuring that both people and the planet benefit from our efforts. By working closely with WWF Tanzania, we are securing water access for this community and protecting vital ecosystems essential for our future,” Kilpin said.

The BNbS model, launched through the TBL and WWF Tanzania collaboration, leverages natural resources to create environmentally sustainable and financially viable projects.

In addition to this, TBL continues to engage in other sustainability projects, including its Smart Agriculture Initiative, which aims to equip all of its direct farmers by 2025 with the skills, connectivity, and financial empowerment needed to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.
